- 1 loaf of French bread, cut into cubes
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup maple syrup (for serving)
- Powdered sugar (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cubed French bread to the egg mixture and gently fold to coat the bread evenly.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Cover with foil and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best results.
- Remove the foil and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving with maple syrup and powdered sugar.
Notes
Feel free to add your favorite toppings such as fresh berries, nuts, or whipped cream.
You can also substitute the milk with almond milk or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
This casserole can be prepared a day in advance and baked in the morning.
