Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ tsp baking powder
1 ½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
2 cups buttercream frosting
1 cup strawberries, sliced
Edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
4. Stir in the boiling water until well combined (the batter will be thin).
5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
6. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
7. Once cooled, frost the cake with buttercream frosting and decorate with sliced strawberries and edible glitter if desired.
8. Slice and serve to your loved ones!
Notes
For a chocolate version, add chocolate chips to the batter.
