Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package directions; drain.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk, and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix well.
  7. Transfer to a greased baking dish and top with crumbled bacon, breadcrumbs, and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a sprinkle of smoked paprika on top before baking.

You can substitute the bacon with cooked chicken or keep it vegetarian by omitting the meat.
