overnight sourdough sweet bread

This Overnight Sourdough Sweet Bread is a delightful treat that is easy to prepare and perfect for breakfast or dessert. With its soft texture and slight sweetness, it pairs wonderfully with butter or jam.

  • Total Time: 180 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf

Ingredients

  • – 1 ½ cups active sourdough starter (fed)
  • – 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • – ½ cup sugar
  • – 1 teaspoon salt
  • – 1 ½ cups milk (warm)
  • – 2 large eggs
  • – ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • – 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm milk, and sugar. Stir until well mixed.
  2. Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the mixture and stir until combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour, salt, and cinnamon (if using), mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise at room temperature for 2 hours.
  6. After rising, punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  7. Place the loaf in a greased bread pan, cover it, and refrigerate overnight.
  8. The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

– This bread can be served plain or topped with butter, jam, or cream cheese.

– Feel free to add nuts or dried fruit to the dough for extra flavor and texture.

– Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
