Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Β½ cups granulated sugar
Β½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup milk
3 Β½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Β½ teaspoon salt
4 large eggs
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, slice the cakes in half horizontally to create four layers.
- Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Place one layer of cake on a serving plate, spread a layer of whipped cream, and top with sliced strawberries.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, whipped cream, and strawberries. Finish with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
- Chill for 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.
